After giving birth to my oldest with the support of an amazing Doula I decided I wanted to be involved in birth work. I have had the privilege of helping many friends and family members throughout their pregnancies and births for the past 26 years. Now, with my children all becoming independent, it has been a true blessing to be able to work as a trained Birth Doula. This work brings me so much joy to be able to support and be an advocate for women and families in this unique season of their lives. HAND (Helping After Neonatal Death) is a volunteer group of parents who have experienced the loss of a baby before, during or after birth. We offer empathetic peer support to parents and their adult loved ones during the normal mourning following miscarriage, stillbirth, interruption of a wanted pregnancy due to a prenatal diagnosis or for maternal health, premature birth, SIDS, or infant death in the first year of life. We offer several types of support group meetings: Grief, Early Pregnancy Loss, Parenting After Loss, and Subsequent Pregnancy; one-on-one peer support; information and resources for bereaved parents and professionals; presentations and bereavement care sensitivity training for healthcare providers; and limited financial assistance to help eligible families with funeral expenses. Support groups are in English, but one-on-one peer support is available in Spanish and other languages. All services are free.

My name is Barbara, I am a resident of the San Lorenzo Valley (Santa Cruz Mountains) I am 45 years old I am a mother of three: my first born was born naturally but needed an episiotomy with him that was in 2005. My daughter was born via c-section in 2006. And in 2019 I had a vbac delivery naturally with my daughter. I feel my experience with all three different deliveries gives me an advantage and insight into how I can serve other birthing mothers. I have been present for 14 births one of which I delivered myself due to spontaneous birth in triage. All of the above inspired me to become a doula so I followed my dream! I am a BEST certified labor and delivery doula. I have a profound appreciation for the beautiful gift of child bearing, there truly is something magical about new life- to be able to help support women through this amazing process is an honor and a very rewarding career!
I offer one package: two prenatal visits and one post partum. I will be on-call 24/7 for you from 38-42 weeks gestation. Whether you choose to deliver at home, birthing center or hospital I will be there to provide support for you and your partner through your entire labor (or c-section) to include the 'golden hour'.
